After devastating Gaza and leading a campaign of genocide, Israel has now expanded its military operations into Lebanon. In a deadly airstrike near Lebanon’s parliament, six people were killed as Israel targeted a Hezbollah-affiliated medical facility in central Beirut. This attack is a clear escalation of Israel’s aggressive tactics, which have already claimed the lives of over 41,000 Palestinians.
The strike in Beirut follows Hezbollah’s rocket fire into northern Israel, part of a year-long conflict that escalated after Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza. Israeli airstrikes have destroyed Palestinian homes, schools, and hospitals, but the same relentless strategy is now being unleashed on Lebanon. As the world witnesses this unfolding tragedy, it’s crucial to remember the thousands of Palestinians who died in a campaign that some consider ethnic cleansing, not just a military operation.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has vowed to “win” against Hezbollah, further fueling the conflict that has already cost over 1,000 lives in Lebanon. Netanyahu expressed condolences to the families of eight Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon, calling them “heroes” and pledging that Israel would triumph over what he calls Iran’s “axis of evil.” However, there’s no mention of the innocent lives lost in Lebanon, just as Israel ignores the thousands of Palestinian children, women, and civilians who have perished in Gaza.
While Israel claims these are “precision” strikes targeting Hezbollah, the real question remains: how many innocent civilians must die? The selective outrage and mourning over Israeli losses while dismissing or ignoring the mass killings of Palestinians and now Lebanese civilians highlights the hypocrisy. It’s impossible to ignore the global silence on the real victims of these ongoing wars—those in Palestine and Lebanon who have lost homes, families, and futures.
As Israeli airstrikes continue across Lebanon, pressure mounts for a potential larger conflict with Iran, which backs Hezbollah. Netanyahu, while coordinating with Washington on a response, seems committed to continuing the assault on Lebanon despite international calls for de-escalation. While Israeli leaders call for solidarity in the face of what they describe as Hezbollah and Iran’s aggression, the rest of the world watches as innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon are sacrificed in this widening war.
As Israel mourns its own, where are the tears for the thousands killed in Gaza? Where is the memorial for the Palestinian children? The loss of six lives in Beirut is tragic, but it pales in comparison to the destruction and death Israel has already caused in Palestine. These actions demand global recognition of the larger tragedy and a call for accountability. The double standards cannot go unnoticed any longer.
